Martin Yan sits down with MOCA to discuss his decades-long career as a chef and TV personality on his hit show Yan Can Cook. He discusses his background and the story of his immigration to America in California. Yan was able to pay for his own college education through a part-time teaching job at UC Davis. His perseverance paid off when he moved to Canada and serendipitously got hired as a talk show host for a Canadian cooking show. Yan's career then progressed rapidly, eventually earning him the title as one of the most famous Asians in America. Yan's philosophy is to always have fun and to treat cooking and eating as a means of entertainment. Yan concludes his interview with his favorite foods and dishes and states that good food makes a great nation. To listen to this oral history please visit http://ohms.mocanyc.org/ |
